Meet a CSGer: Kristie

Say hello to CSG’s new Senior Art Director, Kristie Pappas. Read on to find out all of the super cool things this artist and "wicked competitive" middle child loves to make in her free time.

A lover of animals

Kristie may be a Colorado transplant, but her love for ALL dogs means she fits in perfectly around here. But the animal love doesn’t stop there. In college, Kristie had a pet Rose Hair Tarantula for 5 years named Moose who used to web her keyboard while she coded websites. And on the slightly more cuddly side, as a college graduation present, she and a friend experienced a day at the T.I.G.E.R.S preservation in South Carolina where they played with baby tigers and wolves and interacted with countless endangered and exotic animals. It remains one of her favorite memories to date.

“Wicked” competitive

Kristie likes to say that she suffers from “hard middle child syndrome,” because she is the middle of three girls. But don’t cry for Kristie — Her syndrome is also her superpower and the source of the overly competitive nature that fuels her creative spirit. Her biggest creative outlets in the fall include pumpkin carving, creating kickass Halloween costumes for herself and others, and screen printing the annual Pappas family Christmas shirts and sweaters.

Pictured: Small soldiers styled by Kristie. These costumes had working walkie-talkies, grenade-shaped flasks and night vision goggles. Kristie also bartended an entire shift in that outfit.

Travel Bug

After spending a week solo living out of Jeep and exploring as much of Iceland as she could, Kristie caught the oh-so-popular travel bug. Since then, she has made a point to see the beauty of all 50 states before she turns 30. Thirty-nine down, 11 to go!

Family is extremely important to Kristie, and for good reason —she was blessed with a big one! Half Greek on her Dad’s side and half Irish on her Mom’s means that she is stubborn and she can drink. Her immediate family members are her best friends, but she also comes with 43 first cousins on the Greek side alone and it doesn’t even come close to stopping there.

Shake’n’Bake

Kristie loves to make — make new pickling liquid recipes, make art, make organized to-do lists, make drinks (she was a bartender for 4+ years) — but most of all, she loves to make people laugh.

It all started at a very young age. Maybe it’s the big family, or the fact that Kristie’s dad is a “real funny guy,” but she has very little humility when it comes to making people smile and can’t really be embarrassed. She loves to laugh and make others laugh.

In pre-school, Kristie’s class put on a ballet recital for family and friends in which the group danced on stage dressed as skunks. One of the moves involved shaking their tails towards the audience. When the crowd burst into laughter, Krsitie took note and continued to only shake her tail until the end of the show. Meanwhile, all the other students continued with the routine as planned.
